Get back on the Chardonnay train
Chardonnay, Chardonnay.... what's it all mean?
25 years ago nobody had heard of it 20 years ago winemakers were rushing to get their hands on it 15 years ago it was the only white wine punters wanted to drink 10 years ago it reigned supreme 5 years ago the sun was setting Today it's the black sheep....
Why is it that some brands are selling their Chardonnay as Classic dry white? Have the mighty fallen this far? The varietal flavour hasn't changed. Certainly the winemaking applied has been modified, gone are the "Dolly Parton" styles loaded to the hilt with everything from alcohol to oak.
The new styles are all about freshness, complexity and fruit character.... enter (stage right) my sales pitch to you. Our Chardonnay has bright fruit character, complexed by barrel ferment and maturation which, when matched to the right foods (read chicken, pink fleshed fish etc), is a glory to behold.
