PROVENANCE WINES

Established in the spring of 1997 Provenance Wines has always had the simple objective of making great wines that exhibit the fruit quality and terroir of special vineyards. Focussed on the south and west Victorian regions of Geelong, Ballarat, and Henty an exhaustive search over many years has led to a small select group of growers supplying Provenance Wines their best fruit. The core of this group has been supplying this precious resource to us for more than 10 years, a fact that demonstrates the goodwill that can be achieved between like-minded growers and a winemaker seeking common goals.

SCOTT IRELAND

In 1981 proprietor-winemaker Scott Ireland, commenced work in the wine industry with vintage in the Barossa Valley at Peter Lehmann Wines. Long hours on the cellar floor fuelled by great Barossan food and plenty of beer was a life changing event. Extensive travel and work throughout the 1980’s in Australia, France and the US led to 5 years on the Mornington Peninsula through the early 1990’s. Home was always southern Victoria and in 1995 it was time to create his own brand of wines. Scott selected Geelong as his base, enamoured with the local Chardonnay and particularly Pinot Noir. Passionate about wine he seeks to produce the best wines possible, wines that are representative of their source (provenance), but shaped by his feel for the art/craft of winemaking.

JEN LILBURN

Scott's life and business partner is Jen Lilburn. Prior to hooking up with Scott, Jen’s contact with the wine industry was through the eyes (and palate) of a discerning consumer. Recognising that this was to be a match truly made in heaven, Jen nowadays actively contributes to Provenance’s strategic direction. Most importantly, she is a critical - and appreciative - sampler of the outcomes of Scott’s winemaking activities.

SAM VOGEL

Winemaker Sam Vogel has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Oenology).... and that's not all. Vintage experiences in both Margaret River and southern France have proved invaluable in building his wine philosophies, as has a dedicated approach to understanding, through tasting many wines. A positive influence on all things Provenance, from coffee through to wine style, credit on our back labels has been hard earnt.

LEEANNE PALICH

Leeanne Palich (Scott’s sister) looks after the books and as a sideline keeps the winery team on their toes. Not only is she a force to be reckoned with in the winery footy tipping competition, but also vintage would not be the same without her tasty cooking powering the cellar along.

JASON NEUSCHAFER

Once upon a time Jason was a newby, "recent addition" to the winery team, now he's an integral part of life in the cellar. Whether it's racking barrels, sniffing lee's or just making sure all is as it should be his exacting approach to cellarwork is testament to his character and is precisely what our fine wines demand. His zen like responses to vintage wine option games must come from his families long history of wine retail in Geelong. His father and grandfather before him owned and ran the much loved Neuchafers wine store in Mercer St for some 75 odd years. A bloody long time.
