PROVENANCE
2010 Henty PINOT NOIR
VINEYARD
This single vineyard wine comes from a vineyard on the outskirts of the township of Tarrington, in the cool south-west Victorian region of Henty. It has a gentle north slope with red buckshot soils, derived from ancient volcanic basalt. The soils are rich in minerals and free draining. It sits at an altitude of 200m with the small Mt Pierrepoint 1km to the north-west.
HARVEST & WINEMAKING
Excellent late winter, early spring rains saw the vines begin the season with a flourish. Warm spring conditions led to good fruit set and the vineyard was not affected by the warm conditions at harvest. Yields were average and the fruit was clean as a whistle and of a quality that led us to using 80% wholebunch in the fermenters. Warm ferments, natural alcoholic & malaolactic fermentations and a 15 month barrel maturation have all contributed to this wines character. That being said terroir rules.
