2005 Late Harvest PINOT GRIS

VINEYARD
Our late-pick Pinot Gris is made from fruit grown in the Moorabool valley sub-region of Geelong. Planted in 1986 the site has a gentle north-east facing slope running down to the Moorabool river. The soil is a mixture of river deposits over yellow clay which grows vines of moderate vigour
HARVEST & WINEMAKING
The 2004/2005 growing season saw terrific conditions that led to great quality fruit. Timely early rains followed by stable weather: warm days and cool nights, resulted in an excellent flowering that in turn led to a balanced yield of fruit. These happy vines ripened their grapes through a long slow ripening period, during February, March and April, when fruit was harvested in prime condition. Purity of fruit flavour being a vintage highlight. A late harvest trial on a section of our Pinot Gris block led to the creation of this wine.
TASTING NOTES
APPEARANCE
Brilliant, deep straw yellow.
NOSE
Lifted, perfumed fruit aromas reminiscent of honeysuckle, pear, violets or even wild honey.
PALATE
When tasted fresh full flavours true to the promised bouquet are to the fore. These succulent flavours roll through the length of the wine where the richness of the elevated residual sugar is deftly balanced with a fine line of bright, tight acid. Flavour persistence is long. The overall impression is of rich, yet vital, dessert style wine.
FOOD MATCHES
A selection of cheeses, fresh fruit salad.
